DONATE A WIG

Donate A Wig (DAW), is an international charity helping cancer patients build and retain self-confidence, as they deal with side effects from their treatments.

We provide free wigs, makeovers, confidence boosting workshops and practical advice for women in the most underprivileged communities in Africa.

We also offer cancer awareness education in local areas, to break the stigma around the disease, so that patients can feel more supported within their communities.

‘Some of us are happy to rock our bald head but some of us may struggle.
Which ever side you find yourself, it’s nice to have a choice.’
– Elizabeth K. (Cancer Survivor, Kenya)

When a cancer patient loses their hair, it can often be a terrifying and difficult experience that adds additional pressure to an already stressful situation. Wearing a wig is a way to cope with hair loss and help make cancer patients look and feel more confident while undergoing treatment. Our Feel Good workshops are held in various locations in Kenya for women who have lost their hair from Cancer treatment.  We are able to partner with local trained make-up artists, beauticians and hairdressers to help us deliver. When a woman loses her hair, we are there to offer a free wig to help restore her identity and confidence.

HOW
CAN YOU HELP?

Donate A Wig would  not be able to operate without the help of it’s volunteers, donors and fund-raisers. We have in the past 4 years been able to support and give over 400 women wigs and makeovers. Stigmatization continues to be a significant factor for cancer patients in Kenya, affecting quality of life and increasing social isolation. Our services provide patients a chance to meet others in similar situations, get access to support and tools to manage cancer treatment appearance related side effects.

With all of the medical costs associated with treatments, sometimes having the funds to purchase a wig can be a challenge especially for women from the underprivileged communities.

get involved

Our initiatives address the gaps in the care of Cancer Patients in some parts of Africa by providing free wigs, makeovers and confidence boosting workshops for women undergoing cancer treatment. We design a space with a goal of helping women cope with some of the appearance changes and side effects that can accompany their treatment.

Feel good makeover day

Our makeover day starts with a warm welcome from one of the Daw volunteers with a brief outline of the day which is followed by a session of networking.

CONFIDENCE BUILDING WORKSHOPS

Fighting cancer is not just a physical battle but an emotional one too. In these workshops we also tend to the emotional needs of the attendees.
